March 28th – April 26th    Systems and Passion: Photo Exhibition

This is the international photo exhibition travelling around the world, developed by the official Swedish celebration committee. Work of the Swedish photographer Helene Schmitz is shown. With 24 pictures she illustrates the 24 categories of Linnaeus’ sexual system. This exhibition is supported by the embassy of Sweden, Brussels.
 

March 28th – November 15th     Systems and Passion: the Garden

In a small plant theatre Linnaeus’ sexual system is explained and illustrated with living plants. A local technical school provides the construction for this plant theatre.
 

March 28th – November 15th     Who was Mr Flower Power, the King of Flowers?

In the Gloriëtte, a garden pavilion in colonial style, we sketch a portrait of the person behind the great scientist Carolus Linnaeus. His scientific curriculum vitae is listed, highlights get extra attention.
 

March 28th – November 15th     Where do Plant Names Come From?

What do all the words of a plant name mean? How do scientists ‘create’ and invent plant names? It is an educational garden exhibit on current plant names.
 

April 28th – May 27th         Portrait Gallery

Linnaeus has always been very vain. In his time a lot of portraits and statutes already existed. Today a group of 20 painters (Het Palet) will use these as source materal for a new 21st century portrait gallery of Linnaeus.
 

May 22nd – October 15th    Flower Clock

Linnaeus was the first one to discover that some flowers have exact opening and/or closing times. In the temporary exhibit garden a flower clock is planted on a plant theatre to illustrate this phenomenon. A local technical school provides the construction for this plant theatre.
 

June 2nd – June 24th        The Linnaeus Era: Children's Art Academy

The children of the Royal Art Academy Pigment go back to the Linnean era. They make portraits, botanical illustrations, invent new names for newly created plants etc.. Their fantasy does not have any limits …. Their work is exhibited in the education centre of the garden.
 

June 2nd – September 30th    Big Election of the Nicest Plant Name (Dutch)

On the website of the garden an online election of the nicest plant name will be held. This competition is organised pure for fun of all plant and literature lovers!
 

July 1st – September 16th    Models for Science

19th and 20th century old plant models are on exhibit during this period. Though originally there was an educational purpose, this exhibition is focused on the ornamental and technical aspects. This event is in collaboration with the National Botanical Garden and some private persons.
