Linnaeus in the National Botanic Garden of Belgium

May 2007 onwards

Floral Hommage to Linnaeus (23 - 28 May)

A floral exhibition will demonstrate the diversity of the Plant Kingdom and show on which specific characteristics Linnaeus based his sexual system.

Classification is Fun (from 23 May)

The National Botanic Garden of Belgium developed a workshop for school children (14-16 y) titled "The keys of life". This workshop highlights the importance of classification. The children set out to find a plant that could save a life. But misidentification might prove fatal. This workshop will be promoted on Linneaus' birthday.

To commemorate Linnaeus' birthday the systematic garden receives new interpretation signs in 2007. These explain the scientific method of classification, they also link classification with popular garden plants.
