Working Together for the World's Plants

BGCI represents the world's greatest force for the protection of plant diversity.

We work in three key areas, with the aim of securing plant diversity for the well-being of people and the planet:

Enabling People and Botanic Gardens

Securing Plant Diversity

Influencing Policy

We have over 500 members, and we support over 2500 botanic gardens, arboreta, and other institutions with plant collections, through the provision of Journals and news services, congresses and education services

BGCI is involved in plant diversity conservation around the world, working with a range of partners to secure the future of threatened species.

We also provide all kinds information on plant conservation from the 'Plant Search' database of plants in the world's living collections, to regular reports on the threat status of specific plant groups.

BGCI are involved in a wide range of policy-making activities. We help to raise the public profile of botanic gardens in meeting political biodiversity and sustainabiity targets, as well as pushing plant diversity up the political agenda

Our vision is "A world in which plant diversity is valued, secure and supporting all life" and to create this world our mission is: "To mobilise botanic gardens and engage partners in securing plant diversity for the well-being of people and the planet". This work is underpinned by a set of values that guide everything we do.
