Working together to develop best practices for botanic gardens

1 October 2015

The results from our recent membership survey indicated that many botanic garden staff would like to have the opportunity to learn about ‘best practice’ methodologies from others.

As a means to make this possible, BGCI is collecting together examples of policies related to the many and varied activities of botanic gardens.  These will then be made available (with the permission of the providing garden) or used to develop generic guidance for other gardens.

Therefore, if your garden has developed a policy in any of the following areas, or has policies in other areas not listed here, we would be most grateful if you could share them with BGCI:

  • Alien invasive species
  • Biosecurity
  • Access and benefit sharing
  • Handling CITES materials
  • Manging traditional knowledge
  • Collection acquisitions
  • Health and safety
  • Field work health and safety
  • Tree safety
  • Sustainability
  • Others....

Please send examples of policies, or information on where to access these, to Suzanne.sharrock@bgci.org, indicating how these made be used by BGCI.

Thank you for your help
