RBGE Certificate in Practical Horticulture – Instructor/Assessor course
Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh’s (RBGE) successful creation and delivery of the Certificate in Practical Horticulture (CPH) since 2006 now results in a consistently high demand for places per course. To help meet this, RBGE now offers an Instructor/Assessor course within different regions, allowing other organisations to deliver the CPH. The Certificate in Practical Horticulture Instructor/Assessor course (CPHIA) was first created and offered in 2011 in an international context at Queen Sirikit Botanic Garden, Thailand. This year, Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is offering another opportunity to learn how to deliver their highly popular CPHIA course at an overseas venue. The host Botanic Garden is the National Tropical Botanical Garden on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Previously, the course attracted attendees from a range of organisations across the globe including Paignton Zoo
(UK), Youth Learning Services in South Lanarkshire (UK), Longwood Botanic Gardens (USA) and the Northwestern University Ecotourism Park & Botanic Gardens in the Philippines.
The CPHIA will be delivered from 2nd November – 14th November, 2013. As the name implies the course has a strong practical element covering key horticultural skills, including vegetative propagation, planting out, container cultivation, etc. In recent years the CPH was jointly developed with the Eden Project (Cornwall), combining the ideas and experiences of the two organisations. The Hawaii course will be delivered by Laura Cohen, the RBGE Principal Developer and Tutor of the CPH and CPHIA and Mark Paterson, Curator of Cruickshank
Botanic Garden, University of Aberdeen. Mark previously managed the Tertiary Education Programme at the Eden Project. Click here to find out more about the instructors. Click here to download the flyer.
The importance and quality of the CPH has been recognised through the endorsement of BGCI and support from the Stanley Smith (UK) Horticultural Trust. For more information on the CPH or the Instructor/Assessor course, please email Laura Cohen: email@example.com.
