Investing in Nature - Mexico

BGCI supporting Mexico botanic gardensBotanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) in partnership with HSBC is supporting the conservation of plants through the botanic gardens in Mexico. These activities are part of the global Investing in Nature programme, a partnership between HSBC, BGCI, WWF and Earthwatch.

The programme is drawing to a close this year but BGCI continues to work with Mexican gardens to promote the conservation and sustainable use of the native plants in support to the subsistence of local communities by means of the fortification of the Mexican botanical gardens.

The aims of Investing in Nature Mexico are:

  • To contribute to national and global efforts in plant conservation and public awareness of the importance of plant diversity by supporting the development of the Mexican Botanic Gardens Association and its' members’ capacity. In particular supporting the implementation of the:
    • International Agenda for Botanic Garden in Conservation, and
    • Conservation Strategy for Mexican Botanic Gardens
  • To raise awareness of the importance of botanic gardens in Mexico to a wide range of target audiences, including schools, people of influence and standing in Mexican society, politicians other decision makers and the general public.
