Serralves Park, a landscape heritage site in the city of Porto, wishes to appoint a Park Director to expand the opportunity which this unique landscape provides, to further the cultural mission of the Serralves Foundation.
The Serralves Foundation, founded in 1989, takes care of the extraordinary assets which include the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Villa and the Park of eighteen hectares, designed by Jacques Greber in 1932 and listed in 2012 as a National Monument of Portugal. The mission of the Foundation is to engage diverse audiences with contemporary art, architecture, the landscape, the environment and other critical issues facing society and its future. The park therefore forms an integral part of the overall mission of the Foundation, offering a rich and dynamic cultural, educational and sensory experience and deepening and spreading knowledge about art, the landscape and the environment.
The Park Director is responsible for safeguarding and enhancing the Park’s natural and built heritage and for raising the profile of this critical part of Porto’s ecosystem. Defining an ambitious strategy in terms of park management, the new Director will also develop an outstanding, innovative and inter-disciplinary programme of events and educational programmes with wide appeal to reinforce the work of the Foundation across a broad public. Committed to the objectives of the Foundation and prepared to contribute to the future sustainability of the organisation, the new Director will provide leadership to the Park staff while also acting as an excellent ambassador externally.
In the new Director, Serralves is looking for an outstanding candidate with ambition, leadership capability, and a real commitment to the work of the Foundation. They will be well networked internationally in their expert field, with the drive to develop the reputation of the Park within the extraordinary cultural offer of the Foundation. They will be committed to developing audiences bringing new interest to all aspects of the Foundation’s work. With excellent communication and advocacy skills, they will ensure recognition of the Park as an integral part of the cultural destination of Serralves.
