Influencing decision-making and policy

The Global Strategy for Plant Conservation has been acknowledged as one of the most successful programmes of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and our essential role in securing its adoption and promoting its implementation is well recognized by the Parties to the CBD. In 2009 we held a series of stakeholder consultations on the development of revised targets for the GSPC for the period 2011 -2020. These revised targets were adopted by the Parties to the CBD in 2010.

We have built on this reputation and consolidated our position through an MOU with the CBD Secretariat and a new contractual arrangement since 2010. Under this agreement, we have developed an on-line toolkit for the GSPC and have organised a series of capacity building workshops to support national and regional implementation of the GSPC.

We are well-recognized internationally as the body representing botanic gardens globally and staff regularly talk at conferences and meetings on behalf of the botanic garden community. We provide the Secretariat for the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation and support botanic garden networks in various parts of the world.
