About the Vumba Botanical Garden

Originally known by the name Manchester Gardens, the garden was developed by Mr and Mrs Taylor in the 1940s. Bought by the government in 1957, the name of the gardens was changed to Vumba Botanical Gardens in 1975. The garden encompasses an impressive 201 ha. Visitors can expect to see native trees, ferns and orchids, as well as an impressive collection of Cycads. Other highlights include displays of Azaleas and hydrangeas.

  • Special Collections:Wide collection of temperate and subtropical species. The garden cultivates 62 species (1997) of cycad and is particularly interested in maintaining a range collection of cycads from Zimbabwe and Central Africa. This cycad collection was initiated in 1995.
