About the Natural History Museum of Denmark

The Natural History Museum is the national museum of natural history in Denmark and is responsible for the management of the national natural history collections as well as associated research and public outreach. The collections form the absolute core of the museum. They include approx. 14 million objects collected over 400 years, including skins, skeletons, pinned insects, herbarium specimens, fossils, minerals and meteorites. In addition to this is the living collections within the Botanical Garden, which include approx. 12,000 different plant species.

The Botanical Garden dates back to 1600 and has occupied four different locations over time. Herbarium C houses 2.9 million plant specimens: 1.4 million within the General Herbarium; 250,000 within the Danish Herbarium and 146,000 within the Greenland Herbarium. The Natural History Museum is active in the field of botanical research with a dedicated Botany Research Section.
