About the Melton Botanic Garden

The Melton Botanic Garden is being developed by volunteers on 26ha of council land.
The garden is based on a dryland theme with plants from 450mm or less of rainfall in the natural habitat or will tolerate low water conditions once established. Melton's long term average rainfall is 450mm.
The main garden areas developed to date are indigenous plantings, Victorian Volcanic Plains Garden, Koori Student Garden, Eucalyptus Arboretum with an understory of Australian natives including a collection of eremophila,
Mediterranean Region Garden, Western and South Australian Garden, the Southern African Garden, Bushfoods Garden, Indigenous Peoples Garden and a mixed garden beds area that is like a mini botanic garden on 0.5ha.
As at 2020, Garden areas currently being built are an Eastern Australian Dryland Garden, Californian, Central and South American Garden and the remaining indigenous plantings around the lake and small lake.
The garden is open to the public 24/7.
