About the Hidcote Manor Garden

Hill-top Arts & Crafts garden created from 1907 onwards by Lawrence Johnston, a superb plantsman and horticulturist. Archetype of garden with room-like enclosures, each with a separate theme, set within an architectural layout. Each garden has a unique character and colour scheme and is separated from its neighbours by walls and hedges of different species. Many rare shrubs and trees, outstanding herbaceous borders, old roses and unusual plant varieties, some of which, such as Verbena 'Lawrence Johnston' and Hypericum 'Hidcote', bearing the Johnston or Hidcote names, were developed here.
