About the Claremont Landscape Garden

Claremont's creation and development involved some of the great names in garden history: Sir John Vanbrugh, Charles Bridgeman, William Kent and Capability Brown all played their part in the landscape seen today. The garden, begun c.1715, was described in 1726 by Stephen Switzer as "the noblest of any in Europe". The many features include a lake island with pavilion, grotto, turf amphitheatre and camellia terrace. Lovely walks with ever-changing vistas.
