About the Castle Drogo

The 20th-century Norman fantasy castle, high on Dartmoor, was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Julius Drewe, founder of the Home and Colonial Stores during the 1920's. The garden is the highest owned by the National Trust nationally. The formal Arts and Crafts gardens (Grade II*), was originally designed by George Dillistone, which are surrounded by architectural yew hedges. The garden contain herbaceous borders, a rose garden. a fragrant garden, a circular Croquet Lawn, a shrubbery and 4 Parrotia arbours under planted with ferns. There is also a Rhododendron Garden and Chapel Garden overlooking Dartmoor and Teign Valley.
