About the University of Birmingham Botanic Garden at Winterbourne
Winterbourne Botanic Garden at the University of Birmingham is a six acre Edwardian Arts and Crafts style garden on the university's Edgbaston Campus.
The garden is a haven of peace and tranquillity only 15 minutes from the city centre.
We hold three National Collections and have lots of interesting features to see including colour themed borders, a pergola, Japanese bridge and unusual sandstone rock garden.
This was originally a private garden (1903) and was bequeathed to the university in 1944. The Garden retains many original features and planting, including a 100 year old, 32m long, nut walk of Corylus avellana.
The National Collections include:
- the History of the European Rose,
- Anthemis spp.
- Iris unguicularis spp.
