About the Gradina Botanica a `Anastasie Fatu`, Iasi
"Anastasie Fătu" Botanical Garden of Iaşi was founded in 1856 and it bears the name of its founder, the famous doctor and naturalist Anastasie Fătu. It is the first Romanian botanical garden belonging to a university and the oldest in the country, unique for the number of species and for their special preservation. Its current location on Copou Hill was set in 1965 and it now has a surface of 99.8 hectares.
Since 1991 a special place is held by the section for blind persons. There are flowers with powerful scents or with peculiar leafs that also have labels in Braille alphabet.
The Botanical Garden co-operates with partners from Romania and from abroad. Membership in the Association of Romanian Botanical Gardens (since 2000) as a founding member has offered the institution a great perspective, especially towards similar institutions from Europe.
