Securing Plant Diversity > BGCI's Global Survey of Threatened Magnoliaceae in Cultivation
BGCI's Global Survey of Threatened Magnoliaceae in CultivationBGCI is very interested in finding out which Magnoliaceae are currently in cultivation.
Please check the list of synonyms to see if any of your collections are included in this list. If they are, then please contact us by: AND
If your Magnoliaceae collections are not included in this list then we are still very interested in hearing about your collections. Please either upload your plant list to the PlantSearch database or send us your plant list by email to info@bgci.org. The results of the survey will be published in early 2008 and be used to plan future activities including ensuring that the most threatened Magnoliaceae species are held in ex situ collections and where possible botanic gardens support the in situ conservation of these highly threatened Magnoliaceae. All information sources and completed surveys will be gratefully received and duly acknowledged.
Conserving Threatened Magnolia SpeciesMagnolias may be blooming in Britain's gardens this spring, but in the wild it is an altogether different story. BGCI has launched a project focusing on the Critically Endangered and Endangered Magnolias around the world. |
The Red List of the Magnoliaceae
The Red List of the Magnoliaceae, published jointly by Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and Fauna & Flora International (FFI), through the Global Trees Campaign (GTC), identifies 131 wild magnolias as being in danger of extinction, from a global total of 245 species.
World Checklist of Magnoliaceae
Covering 7 genera, 223 species, this volume contains the first full list of the Magnolias (128 species). With additional information on life forms and distribution, and bibliography of the most relevant taxonomic literature, this is an essential reference for biologists, growers and collectors. |
