Magnolia ImagesOver half the world’s magnolia species are close to extinction in the wild, says new report
Conserving Threatened Magnolia SpeciesMagnolias may be blooming in Britain's gardens this spring, but in the wild it is an altogether different story. BGCI has launched a project focusing on the Critically Endangered and Endangered Magnolias around the world.
Red List of the MagnoliaceaeThe Red List of the Magnoliaceae, published jointly by Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) and Fauna & Flora International (FFI), through the Global Trees Campaign (GTC), identifies 131 wild magnolias as being in danger of extinction, from a global total of 245 species.
Some Threatened MagnoliasOver half the world’s magnolia species are close to extinction in the wild, says a new report from BGCI and Fauna and Flora International. We've gathered notes on some of the most threatened species. |
Global Magnoliaceae Survey
Does your botanic garden grow threatened Magnolias? If it does, BGCI is very interested to hear from you as we are conducting a global survey which will be used by the Global Trees Campaign to initiate integrated measures to restore wild populations and strengthen ex situ collections.
World Checklist of Magnoliaceae
Covering 7 genera, 223 species, this volume contains the first full list of the Magnolias (128 species). With additional information on life forms and distribution, and bibliography of the most relevant taxonomic literature, this is an essential reference for biologists, growers and collectors.
Global Trees Campaign
Over 8000 tree species, 10% of the world’s total, are threatened with extinction. The Global Trees Campaign is addressing the problems with help from botanic gardens and BGCI.
BGCI Plant Search Database
The BGCI plant search allows you to research plants in living collections all around the world. It gives cross-referenced information with Red Data Lists, plant images, the International Plant Names Index, Crop Wild Relatives, and the Tree Conservation Database. |
