Global Trees Campaign

The Wollemi Pine was discovered only ten years ago in the Blue Mountains north of Sydney, Australia. It is one of the world's oldest and rarest plants. Less than 100 adult trees are known to exist in the wild. The Wollemi Pine is now the focus of extensive research to safeguard its survival, and an innovative way of raising funds for its conservation has been developed. Members of the public can assist in the conservation effort by growing their own Wollemi Pine. A number of botanic gardens have partnered with the Australian government and Wollemi Pine International Pty Ltd to make the recently discovered Wollemi Pine (Wollemia nobilis) commercially available and feed some of the profits back into conservation in Australia.
